Jean-Baptiste-Meilleur School

Construction of 2 new buildings to complement the existing one, a multi-purpose facility for regular high school students, vocational training and adult education. The first wing (1,726m2 on ground level), located at the front of the site and intended for regular students, has 3 floors housing 32 classrooms, as well as laboratories and student living areas. To shift away from the cold concrete schools of the 1960s, the designers opted for natural lighting and the use of wood. The cladding also features aluminum and blue fleurdelisé accents, in keeping with the Quebec government’s architectural vision for schools. To the back, the new building houses a 1,067m2 sports block, including a double gymnasium and changing rooms. The school’s existing gymnasiums are available to the community. The project was not aiming for environmental certification but does incorporate some elements of sustainable development.
