Estimator - Construction - Alternative Projects

The estimator in our building division, who is specifically assigned to our alternative and private projects, is responsible for preparing various files and submitting them in due form. He/she ensures the proper coordination and follow-up of bids with various subcontractors and other stakeholders.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Analyzing tender documents, including drawings, technical functional programs (TFPs), and other requirements;

  • Inviting subcontractors in each category to submit bids;

  • Following up with subcontractors;

  • Working closely with engineers, architects, and other building professionals;

  • Being able to contribute innovative ideas to optimize design;

  • Ensuring that bid deadlines are met;

  • Analyzing subcontractor prices and being able to negotiate for the award of subcontracts;

  • Calculate the cost of materials, labor, equipment, subcontracting, and overhead;

  • Maintain and develop the database;

  • Evaluate quantities (in 2D and 3D modes);

  • Perform all other related tasks.

Required skills

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction engineering, or architecture with 3 years of experience in estimating, or a college diploma in architectural or civil engineering estimating with 5 years of experience in estimating.

  • In-depth knowledge of construction methods and materials used in the building industry.

  • Familiarity with design-build projects;

  • Ability to read plans and specifications;

  • Good computer skills (Excel, specialized estimating software);

  • Knowledge of and interest in BIM;

  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously;

  • Ability to plan and organize work while meeting deadlines;

  • Demonstrated autonomy and attention to detail;

  • Ability to work effectively in a team;

  • Good interpersonal communication skills;

  • Good analytical skills.
