Chief Estimator - Buildings

The Chief Estimator in our Buildings division, more specifically in the Alternative Mode branch, is responsible for analyzing tender documents for our large-scale public and private construction projects. Under the supervision of the Vice-President - Alternative Mode, the incumbent will be responsible for a small team of estimators, and will ensure the proper coordination and follow-up of bids on the various projects.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Consult tender sites for the selection of potential projects;

  • Chaperone or assume a leadership role within the estimating group of the Alternative Fashion division;

  • Make decisions to bid on projects in collaboration with the President and Vice

  • President of the division;

  • Supervise a small group of estimators;

  • Apply for bid bonds and insurance;

  • Develop and write the bid form;

  • Make the final bid closing;

  • Make bid visits;

  • Prepare quotations and estimates for bidding;

  • Prepare and send out insurance and bond request for quotation documents;

  • Work jointly with other estimating teams (Building and Civil);

  • Perform any other related tasks.

Required skills

  • Hold an AEC in estimating, a DEC in architecture or a BAC in construction engineering;

  • Have a minimum of 6 years' experience in estimating in a general contracting office, or any other relevant experience;

  • Have a good knowledge of calls for tender in the private and public sectors (an asset);

  • Have excellent knowledge of estimating and building;

  • Ability to read plans and specifications;

  • Good computer skills (Excel, Word);

  • Ability to work simultaneously on several projects;

  • Ability to plan and organize work to meet deadlines;

  • Autonomous and meticulous;

  • Leadership and teamwork skills;

  • Good interpersonal skills;

  • Good analytical skills.
