Heavy-duty truck driver

Heavy-duty truck drivers are responsible for the safe and efficient transport of materials, equipment, or goods to various sites. They perform daily inspections of their vehicles, ensure safe loading and unloading, comply with road transport laws and regulations, and complete the required documentation. They also perform basic vehicle maintenance and help maintain high health and safety standards.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Load and secure equipment and goods onto various transport vehicles;

  • Make deliveries and pick up equipment at various construction sites quickly and efficiently;

  • Check that equipment is in working order and clean upon departure from and return to construction sites;

  • Notify the mechanic or equipment team of any broken parts and all missing or defective items.

Required skills

  • Valid Class 1 driver’s license;

  • Experience driving tractor-trailers, flatbeds, and 3-axle semi-trucks;

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position;

  • Good knowledge of equipment securing and transportation standards;

  • Clean SAAQ driving record;

  • Knowledge of transportation laws and regulations;

  • Be self-reliant and responsible;

  • Possession of a construction site health and safety card is a plus.
