Estimating Manager - Building/Lump Sum

The Director of Estimating for the Building Contracting Division ensures the smooth running of their department by providing strong leadership and effective management of human resources. They are responsible for the strategic management of bids, ensuring that strategic objectives are met while optimizing the bidding process to maximize the company's efficiency and competitiveness.

Roles and responsibilities

Strategy

  • Define and implement strategic objectives: participate in the development of the company's estimation and procurement strategy;

  • Ensure that estimation practices are aligned with the company's strategic objectives;

  • Contribute to long-term resource planning, taking into account market trends and opportunities for process improvement.

Business development

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure access to them;

  • Be responsible for monitoring potential market opportunities, new subcontractors, and suppliers.

Leadership & Human Resources/Team Management

  • Manage, supervise, and oversee the team under your responsibility;

  • Supervise and develop the skills of your team members;

  • Manage the performance and evaluations of your team members;

  • Promote a culture of collaboration and innovation within the estimation and procurement team.

Project & Operations Management

  • Oversee estimation processes to ensure accurate project cost assessments;

  • Oversee the coordination of procurement activities;

  • Be in charge of the risk and opportunity analysis process, as well as proposing mitigation measures;

  • Be responsible for managing daily operations related to estimation and procurement, taking into account the capacity of your team;

  • Ensure operational efficiency and rapid problem resolution.

Finance & Administration

  • Be responsible for setting budgets related to estimation and procurement.

  • Ensure that departmental strategic performance indicators are met.

  • Ensure that estimation and procurement practices comply with company regulations and internal policies.

Communication & public relations

  • Participate in the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of health and safety policies.

  • Promote a culture of health and safety within the company.

  • Manage communication between the estimation and procurement teams and other departments.

  • Maintain relationships with stakeholders, including suppliers and authorities;

  • Work to promote the company's brand image and strengthen the reputation of estimation and procurement practices.

Innovation & continuous improvement

  • Identify and implement best practices in estimation and procurement;

  • Oversee strategic initiatives and ensure continuous process improvement to increase business efficiency.

Health and safety

  • Participate in the implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of health and safety policies;

  • Promote a culture of health and safety within the company.

    Required skills

  • Hold an AEC in estimating, a DEC in architecture, or a BAC in construction engineering;

  • Have at least 10 years of experience in estimating in a general contractor's office or other relevant experience;

  • Have excellent knowledge of estimating and construction;

  • Ability to read plans and specifications;

  • Have good computer skills (Excel, Word);

  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously;

  • Ability to plan and organize work while meeting deadlines;

  • Be independent, proactive, and detail-oriented;

  • Leadership and teamwork skills;

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills;

  • Good analytical skills.
